Engineered with innovative safety and convenience features, the NextFit is the easiest convertible car seat to install accurately and securely in a wide range of vehicles. The exclusive ReclineSure 9-position Leveling System provides the most recline options to accommodate a wide range of vehicles, and the SuperCinch LATCH tightener uses force-multiplying technology to help achieve a tight and secure vehicle fit with a fraction of the effort. Just like the KeyFit, two RideRight bubble levels accurately indicate correct seat angle in both rear-facing and forward-facing modes. And, when you're ready to move to forward-facing, an integrated slide path makes it easy to re-position the LATCH strap without re-threading.
Other features include a removable infant insert for smaller babies, 5-point harness with 2-position chest clip, 6-position headrest with integrated harness adjustment, built-in belt lock-offs for installation with vehicle belt, machine-washable seat pad, and removable cup holder for use on either side of the seat. For use with children from 5-40 lbs in rear-facing mode and from 22-65 lbs in forward-facing mode.
This is an excellent Car Seat and I love everything about it. It fits perfectly in our Mitsubishi. It's so easy to adjust and get a proper install, we used the LATCH straps and honestly it took no longer than 5 minutes! I appreciate the nine recline options which ensure that it will fit in any car without needing pool noodles or anything. It is also very compact and thus should fit in every car. My daughter is 3 years old and we decided to keep her rear facing for as long as possible (Extended Rear Facing).
The benefits of ERF (Extended Rear Facing) are amazing. More and more parents are keeping their children rear facing for longer than the 1 year and 20 lb minimum and some are even going past the 2 year AAP recommendation. Why? Because it's safer! Kids who continue riding rear facing from just ages 1 - 2 years are 5 times safer than their forward facing friends and forward facing kids under the age of 2 are 75% more likely to be injured in a car accident. Those are pretty high percentages! Age really has nothing to do with it. Rear facing is safer...period.
The main reason that kids should continue rear facing past 1 years old is all based on spinal development. Until around 3 years old, kids have spines that are made of soft bone and cartilage because of this the spinal column can do a lot of stretching (up to 2 inches!) unfortunately the spinal cord does not stretch so well and will rupture after only about 1/4 inch. This unfortunately results in paralysis or death. It's not a pretty thought but it's a thought that will probably get you to keep your kids rear facing longer. When you have your child rear facing the car seat helps absorb more centrifugal force so that your child does not have to, this helps keep that spinal cord intact.
You can see that rear facing beyond the 1 year and 20 lbs law is safer. It might not be normal (yet!) but who cares about being normal anyway? It's not likely that you do! Besides wouldn't you rather be weird with better protected kids than normal? At least consider rear facing until 2 years old. I mean that's the AAP's recommendation now, so you can at least throw that piece of trivia out to the nay-sayers when asked. However, you might want to take things a bit further and do like the Swedes and rear face till 4 or 5 years old; their statistics are pretty hard to argue with!
With the Chicco NextFit I can properly ERF Sophia until she is 40lbs! Some may say she looks uncomfortable but in my opinion all that matters is she's safe, comfortable, and happy. Look at it this way young children can't handle the incredibly high forces in a collision while forward facing. Not even at speeds which we adults may think are minor. Rear facing a child gives fantastic protection! She does have leg room and if we were to ever get rear ended, a broken leg from rear facing would be far better than a broken neck from forward facing.

That is really nice. My kids are older, but I will pass this on to my SIL with a young baby!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great car seat to get my granddaughter. I'm going to put this on the holiday list and surprise her mom this year.
ReplyDeleteThe seat looks really durable and much safer. It's nice to know that rear facing is much safer.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great car seat. Car seats have really changed since my son was little.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I would do it too, but we've already moved beyond that point and both my kids are forward facing. My problem is the rear facing car seats that extended beyond the 40 pound mark were twice as expensive as other car seats and therefore couldn't afford that option. But I love the idea of better protection.
ReplyDeleteI don't have kids but this would make a great baby shower gift. Rear facing seems unnatural, but I get the importance for safety!
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for people with kids. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhat a car seat! It looks like a seat in a race car. I love the head guards to protect their little domes.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great looking car seat. I will pass this along to a friend that is in the market for a car seat.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am one of those who think she looks uncomfortable. I guess it'll be safer if you turn it the other way. I love the carseat though, the color and security features.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great carseat. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fantastic car seat your little girl looks thrilled!
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting. She does look a bit tight in there, I'm curious how it works for her on longer car trips? The seat is very nice looking though.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great car seat. I think it would make an awesome baby shower gift.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super safe car seat. She looks so secure!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a car seat. When my daughter was young car seats weren't half this substantial.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great car seat for children's safety. We all need to feel rest assured that our kids are secured in the car.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great looking carseat. I love the chicco brand too.
ReplyDeleteMichelle F.
Looks like a car seat from the future all space looking and stuff.
ReplyDeleteThis Chicco Nextfit is perfect for my niece, so I might just give her one this Christmas. The car seat looks super comfortable, and my niece would be safe and secure there.
ReplyDeleteThis definitely looks like a durable and comfortable car seat. Definitely would recommend new parents to register for this model.
ReplyDeleteThe seat looks amazing but your daughter is seriously way too grown up for it facing the rear. It's a serious risk to her life!
ReplyDeleteIt appears really comfy and, most notably, safe.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great seat for children! I admit that I don't really know much about anything that children need, but I sure do know that carseats are a must!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like such a great carseat. I wish I had one when my daughter was younger.
ReplyDeleteThat looks really comfortable for kids
ReplyDeleteIt looks really nice and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are older and have not used a car seat in years. I am jealous at how fancy and hitech they are now.
ReplyDeleteI'm beyond the car seat stage but I totally appreciate the extra features and secure fit in the vehicles this one offers.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome car seat and I will have to share this with my sister as well as my niece who have lil ones. Thanks for sharing and the information.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds wonderful, and looks like I'm going to be needing one for my latest grandson who is five months old, and I was just informed by telephone that I'm now a great grandmother of a great-grandson Alexander Parker. WOO HOO!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great carseat. I keep my kids rear facing as long as possible!
